On Monday (3/6), Ministry of State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia (MoSS) and National Research and Innovation Agency (NRIA) launched an innovative capacity-building program focused on the production of hybrid corn varieties in Malang, East Java. This initiative, created in collaboration with the Government of Timor Leste, is called the Capacity Building Program on Hybrid Corn Seed Release. The program includes eight participants from Timor Leste and Indonesia. It aims to share best practices and foster mutual learning in technology and science, with the goal of developing superior hybrid corn seeds for food, livestock feed, and bioethanol production.
Sasa Sofyan Munawar, Director of Competency Development at NRIA, stated that this program demonstrates the Government of Indonesia's commitment, through NRIA, to enhancing human resource capacity to support the downstream process and production of quality hybrid corn seeds. Head of the Working Group for Triangular and South-South Cooperation at the Bureau of International Technical Cooperation, Ida Ayu Yulie Primashanti, representing MoSS’ Head of the Bureau of International Technical Cooperation, emphasized the importance of multistakeholder partnerships, noting that this initiative involves government agencies, the private sector, and independent farmers.
Throughout the program, participants will take part in both classical and non-classical sessions, designed to optimize the benefits and positive impacts through active classroom discussions and field visits to one of BRIN's hybrid corn producer partners, UD. Sari Bumi Indonesia. To further enrich the participants' experience, MoSS and NRIA have also organized cultural activities to highlight the unique aspects of Malang.
